Cuore SR Owen - Card Story, Episode, Homescreen

Cuore SR [ Words Unravelled ] Owen
Scenario writer: Minami Yuna @373_yuna

Homescreen line:
“Kenja sama, what would you do if you came across a dying animal? I suppose you’d help it, treat it, and care for it. If it were up to me, I might choose to put it out of its misery. After all, even if it could live for a moment longer, in the end, it'll... If that's going to happen anyway, isn't it better to cut its suffering short? Haha, I wonder which is the kinder thing to do.”

Even Trivial Magic is My Forte — Episode 1

[ Mansion of Lucky Items ]

Owen: So this is a mansion filled with items that are supposed to bring good luck, huh… But everywhere I look, all I see is junk.

[ Riquet approaches Owen. ]

Riquet: Owen, please do not cause any mischief.
Owen: Why, hello there, Riquet. Must you assume that I’m up to no good?
Riquet: I’ve made no such accusation. It is simply improper of us to thoughtlessly touch the protective charms on display.
Mithra had touched one just now, and he broke it. I think we should return that owl ornament back to where it belongs as soon as possible.
Owen: Hey, I’m not like Mithra. He’s a beast that has no idea how to control his strength.
… But you may have a point. If you’re concerned about this thing, you take it with you. Here, catch.
Riquet: (gasp) Don’t toss it my way out of a sudden… —— Ahh!

[ The owl ornament breaks. ]

Owen: Oh, look. Its wing broke.
You were saying that Mithra and I might break something? You’re just a pot calling the kettle black.
Riquet: O-Oh no…… It was someone else’s belongings that broke too…
I had no idea that dolls made out of clay were this fragile. Now, it’s more understandable how Mithra broke—
Owen: …… Haha.
Riquet: Why are you laughing?
Owen: I mean, you were so easily deceived, and seeing you flustered is pretty amusing.

Even Trivial Magic is My Forte — Episode 2

Owen: That thing had cracks in it since the start. It’s a sacrificial doll that shields its owner from bad luck, and it’s meant to break in the end.
Riquet: In other words… It was never not broken?
Owen: Well, I guess you could say so. You might have been the one straw that broke the doll’s back though.
Riquet: Not that cruel manner of speech again… Well, at any rate, Owen, I’m glad it’s neither me nor you who broke the doll.
This protective charm has simply carried out its duty. To reward it for its excellent work, I shall now repair its broken wing.

Riquet: « sunretea edif »

Riquet: …… Huh?
Owen: Haha, its wing’s bent all funny now. There’s traces of magic left in it, and it’s getting in your way.
Riquet: T-Then I shall give it another go!

Riquet: « sunretea edif »

Owen: Oh, now its head’s twisted. You’re a poor excuse for a wizard if you’re unable to overcome mere traces of magic.

Owen: « quare moritor »

[ The ornament is restored. ]

Riquet: Oh……
Owen: See, it’s as good as new. It must have really not wanted to be repaired by the likes of you.
Riquet: I don’t think so. I just didn’t manage to do it well… But thank you very much for restoring it to its original state.
Owen: You’re welcome. Ah, but now that I think of it… Maybe you twisted its wing and head on purpose?
Perhaps you were only pretending that your magic was insufficient, so you could leave it twisted beyond recognition, so that it would never, ever be restored. In that case, I’d be happy to break it again on your behalf.
Riquet: Hey! And here I was thinking you were amazing for being able to skilfully command magic like that.
Owen: Of course I can. Who do you take me for?
Well, I suppose if you were to diligently work on your magic for the next thousand years or so, you might find yourself less of a disgrace than you are now?
Provided you live that long, that is.

Card Episode: The Thin Line Between a Prayer and a Curse

[ Magical Manor - Courtyard ]

Akira: The mansion we visited recently was grand, wasn’t it? There was this entire wall of protective charms said to bring luck…
Owen: It was quite the collection, not that I have any interest in that mountain of junk. The mansion’s owner must be either an extraordinary hoarder or a coward.
Akira: I get the idea of having good luck charms around though, it makes you feel at ease.
There’s lots of charms like those back in my world, too.
For example, you’d tie some string around your wrist or ankles, and when the string comes undone, your prayers would come true…
Owen: Really…… So, if you cut it on purpose, what happens?
Akira: Umm, bad luck will come to you, or so the saying goes…
Owen: Unlucky events will unfold, huh? That sounds like a type of curse, doesn’t it?
Akira: A … curse…?
Owen: That’s right. You could pray hard and cover yourself in all sorts of protective charms, but your prayer could turn on you in the blink of an eye.
Items you wear can easily usurp your will. They’ll absorb the energy of your will, twist the prayers you’ve made with it, and attack you.
Akira: I… I suppose so? It’s all superstition passed down for generations, so there might be people who think the way you do…
If I’m going to wear a charm, I’ll make a little prayer. Something like, I hope dinner will be a dish I like!
Owen: I see. Well, that’s got nothing to do with me. You’re free to pray for anything, and what you end up encountering is entirely on you.
